Top Trump Official Faces Impeachment

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth is confronting a bipartisan push for impeachment as Congress reconvenes next week.

The threat intensified after Republicans suffered significant midterm losses, with the Iran war cited as a major factor in the Democratic gains.

POLL: Should Pete Hegseth Resign?

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., intends to force a vote on impeaching Hegseth unless the Pentagon chief resigns first, using a privileged resolution that requires action within two legislative days.

One House GOP lawmaker told Fox News Digital, “He’s screwed.”

Several other Republicans indicated the measure could pass, particularly if absences among defeated members thin the majority.

“If he introduces it, it’ll pass,” another House Republican said, with two more echoing similar expectations.

A current White House official noted that Tuesday’s results would have differed without the Iran conflict and suggested accountability for Hegseth would play out in the lame-duck session.

President Trump has described Hegseth as doing “a good job,” though others in his circle have signaled he is vulnerable.

White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis stated that the president is willing to work with anyone but criticized potential sham investigations by Democrats.

A Pentagon spokesman, Sean Parnell, rejected rumors of removal, saying Hegseth “will not back down or be deterred by politicians seeking to score partisan points” and that the department has followed the law.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries posted, “Why is Pete Hegseth still around?”

Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., who is expected to lead the Armed Services Committee, has long argued Hegseth is unqualified and should be removed.

Impeachment in the House would still require a Senate trial for any removal.

Many House Republicans remain opposed, with one saying success would depend on willingness to oppose the president.

The midterm projections highlighted the Iran war and tariffs as key drivers of the GOP setbacks.
