Obama Opens His Dumb Mouth in Support of Ilhan Omar

Former President Barack Obama has publicly defended Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., accusing President Donald Trump’s administration of using federal law enforcement to target political opponents as investigators examine allegations involving the congresswoman’s U.S. citizenship.

The dispute intensified Sunday after Obama issued a lengthy statement criticizing the federal investigation into Omar’s immigration history. The former president suggested the administration was attempting to revoke her citizenship and potentially deport her because of her outspoken criticism of Trump.

“It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say,” Obama wrote Sunday on X. “But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.”

Obama’s intervention follows a search of Omar’s Washington, D.C., residence by federal agents investigating questions surrounding her immigration records and the circumstances under which she obtained American citizenship.

According to Fox News Digital, investigators are examining whether Omar or her father provided inaccurate information on immigration documents during the naturalization process decades ago. The allegations remain under investigation, and no finding of fraud was established in the report.

The investigation has placed renewed scrutiny on Omar, a Somali-born Democratic lawmaker who has frequently clashed with Trump over immigration policy, national security and other political issues.

Obama defended Omar’s citizenship history, arguing that federal authorities were pursuing claims without sufficient evidence.

“To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts,” Obama wrote.

According to Obama’s account, Omar immigrated to the United States with her father when she was 12 years old. He said she subsequently became an American citizen at age 17 when her father completed the naturalization process.

The former president disputed what he characterized as an “unsubstantiated theory” that Omar was actually 18 when her father became a citizen. That distinction could be significant because federal immigration law establishes specific age and eligibility requirements for children obtaining citizenship through their parents.

“The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president,” Obama wrote.

The White House rejected Obama’s accusations and defended the Justice Department’s handling of investigations under Trump.

“Unlike Joe Biden, President Trump has not weaponized the Department of Justice against his political foes,” White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis told Fox News Digital. “The Department is focused on restoring law and order and keeping Americans safe.”

Trump has also denied directing the investigation into Omar, maintaining that decisions concerning the matter belong to federal prosecutors and the Justice Department.

“I’ve always found her to be totally crooked, personally, but that has nothing to do with me,” Trump previously told reporters.

Obama broadened his criticism beyond Omar, alleging that the administration had also pursued other perceived political adversaries, including New York’s attorney general, a former FBI director and Federal Reserve officials.

“The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views,” Obama wrote.

“Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.”

The escalating disagreement highlights the competing interpretations of the investigation, with Obama alleging politically motivated enforcement and the White House insisting that federal authorities are carrying out legitimate law enforcement responsibilities. The underlying citizenship allegations remain unresolved, and the investigation’s ultimate findings have yet to be established.
