TV Host Arrested in $160 Million Scandal

Mexican television host Inés Gómez Mont was arrested and detained by ICE in Miami. She is wanted in Mexico in connection with a $160 million fraud scheme involving her husband, lawyer Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga.

The couple is accused of using shell companies, false invoices, and contracts to obtain funds from Mexico’s Interior Ministry and launder the money. Investigators describe Álvarez Puga as the “King of the Invoice Mills,” linked to a network of politicians, officials, lawyers, businesspeople, and celebrities.

The pair fled Mexico in 2021 after arrest warrants were issued. Gómez Mont was photographed in handcuffs following her arrest and remains in U.S. immigration custody pending any extradition proceedings.

She has previously denied the allegations. In a 2021 Instagram post to her 2.5 million followers, she wrote: “Indeed, according to the press, the authorities accuse me of allegedly receiving money from two public contracts (which amount to 3 billion pesos) and of belonging to organized crime. Those facts are absolutely false.”

She continued, “That is, without any justification they put me on the same level as a drug dealer or terrorist. Seems like an injustice to me. To be clear, I’ve never stolen a weight. I haven’t received any money from those contracts, let alone I’ve never seen or had 3 billion pesos in my life. I’m a TV host and a full time mom. And under no concept do I belong to organized crime.”

Gómez Mont added that she feared additional fabricated cases but would continue defending herself. “I will continue to work with my legal team to defend myself and always honestly share with you the details of my case,” she stated. She asked for a “vote of confidence” from those unfamiliar with her and asserted, “I am innocent and this is injustice.”

Her husband was detained by ICE in Miami in September 2025 over immigration irregularities and later released on bond. His current status is unknown.

Gómez Mont gained attention years earlier when she proposed to Tom Brady during Super Bowl media day in 2008. She appeared in a wedding dress and veil while covering the event for Mexican television. Brady declined. The Patriots, then undefeated, lost the game to the Giants.

The current charges center on the alleged fraud scheme dating to their time in Mexico. Authorities in the United States have held her on immigration grounds while Mexican officials pursue the underlying case.

The scheme allegedly involved false documentation to extract public funds. Investigators have tied the operation to a broader network connected to Álvarez Puga.

Gómez Mont’s legal team has maintained her innocence since the warrants first surfaced. She has described the accusations as lacking justification and has vowed to fight them publicly.

The arrest in Miami marks the latest development in a case that began with warrants issued five years ago. She awaits further proceedings that could lead to extradition.

The fraud allegations involve substantial sums obtained through contracts with the Mexican Interior Ministry. Shell companies and falsified invoices form the core of the claims against the couple.

Gómez Mont’s earlier public statement emphasized that she had never received the disputed funds and rejected any connection to organized crime. The statement remains her primary public response to the accusations.
