Armed Man Arrested Near White House After Trump Threat

An illegal immigrant from Venezuela was arrested near the White House after allegedly threatening to kill President Donald Trump while carrying multiple firearms in a stolen vehicle.

Secret Service officers approached Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos after observing him acting suspiciously in a car parked on Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C.

The encounter took place in an especially sensitive area of the capital, where federal officers regularly monitor vehicles and pedestrians near government buildings. The presence of a parked car and the man’s reported behavior prompted closer scrutiny.

He told officers that voices in his head had directed him to travel to the capital to kill Trump.

Authorities determined the vehicle was reported stolen, and Chrinos admitted to having weapons inside.

The alleged statement about killing the president is central to the concern surrounding the arrest. Investigators must assess both the words attributed to the suspect and any evidence indicating whether he had the ability or intent to carry out a threat.

A search recovered three guns, including an AR-15-style rifle and two handguns, along with dozens of rounds of ammunition.

Chrinos illegally entered the United States through Texas in March 2024, was arrested by Border Patrol, and later released into the country under the Biden administration.

The reported combination of an allegedly stolen vehicle, firearms and ammunition raised the stakes for the responding officers. Authorities have not said that any shots were fired during this encounter.

ICE lodged a detainer with the U.S. Marshals Service, which holds him in custody.

He faces charges including carrying a rifle outside a home or business, unlawful transportation of firearms, possession of unregistered firearms and ammunition, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and theft.

An immigration detainer is a request from federal immigration authorities to another law-enforcement agency concerning a person in custody. It is separate from the criminal charges arising from the Washington incident.

U.S. Secret Service Director Sean Curran stated that the incident showed personnel relying on training to de-escalate a volatile situation posing an imminent threat.

Curran added that the agency is alarmed by the increase in threat cases and will focus on proactively identifying individuals who raise suspicion.

The listed offenses concern weapons possession and transportation as well as the vehicle itself. The filing of a charge is not a determination of guilt, and the allegations remain subject to proceedings in court.

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin praised the Secret Service for intervening before any harm occurred, calling it an example of the daily work protecting the nation’s leaders.

The case adds to a series of recent security incidents near the White House and Capitol Hill, including vehicle rammings into barricades and a California man found with an operational guillotine.

The Secret Service is responsible for protecting the president and other designated officials. Its protective work includes responding to suspicious activity and investigating threats, even when no attack ultimately occurs.
