Tony Romo Just Got Arrested in Wisconsin — and the Details Are Still Emerging

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current CBS Sports analyst Tony Romo was arrested Thursday night in Milwaukee County on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Romo was pulled over around 8 p.m. while driving southbound on Interstate 43 in Milwaukee. Authorities alleged he did not successfully complete standard field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody, booked, and released later the same evening.

As of the following afternoon, details such as whether a chemical breath or blood test was administered had not been released. Romo’s representatives had not issued a public statement, and neither CBS Sports nor the NFL had commented.

Under Wisconsin law, a first-offense operating-while-intoxicated violation is generally treated as a civil offense rather than a criminal misdemeanor if there are no aggravating factors. Typical penalties can include fines, license consequences, and mandatory alcohol assessment.

Romo, 46, spent his entire 14-year NFL career with the Cowboys after joining as an undrafted free agent in 2003. He threw for more than 34,000 yards and 248 touchdowns, earning four Pro Bowl selections. After retiring following the 2016 season, he became CBS’s lead NFL game analyst alongside Jim Nantz, known for his ability to predict plays before the snap.
