Of course, I wasn't some perfect little Christian girl who never made mistakes. I worried too much about popularity, compared myself to other girls, and occasionally cared more about appearances than I should have. Social media made that even worse. It was easy to look at somebody else's pictures and convince myself their life was better than mine. My mother was usually the person who brought me back down to earth. She reminded me that beauty fades, trends change, and the things that really define a person are their character, integrity, and relationship with God.
When it came time to choose a college, I knew I wanted to stay somewhere in the South. I ultimately enrolled at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where I majored in public relations with a minor in political science. Moving away from home was exciting and intimidating at the same time. I loved Franklin, but I was ready to experience a bigger campus, meet people from different backgrounds, and start figuring out what I wanted to do professionally. Plus, I'll admit that the football atmosphere was a pretty major selling point.
