Conservative Smokeshow of the Day

As a teenager, I was probably exactly what you'd imagine from someone who eventually started calling herself Southern Barbie. I loved fashion, makeup, cheerleading, and anything involving a little sparkle. I spent an embarrassing amount of time straightening my hair, watching beauty tutorials, and picking out outfits for football games. Pink was always my favorite color, and I had an entire collection of sundresses and cowboy boots. But I was also a pretty serious student, and I didn't appreciate being underestimated just because I enjoyed traditionally feminine things.
I was on the cheerleading squad throughout high school, and Friday night football games were practically a social event for our entire town. We'd spend the afternoon getting ready, grabbing food with friends, and making our way to the stadium before kickoff. I loved the excitement, the school spirit, and the way everybody came together. After the games, we'd usually end up at somebody's house for a bonfire or stop at a local diner for burgers and milkshakes. Those were such simple times, but I honestly think they were some of the happiest years of my life.
