Veteran ESPN Analyst Ryan Clark Let Go Amid Network Restructuring

Longtime ESPN analyst and former NFL safety Ryan Clark was dismissed by the network on Monday, learning of the decision during a break while appearing on “NFL Live.”

Clark, who joined ESPN in 2015 after a 13-year playing career that included a Super Bowl title, did not return to the broadcast after being informed. The network had planned to include him in a larger round of layoffs the following day but accelerated the move after media inquiries.

Sources cited both cost-cutting tied to Disney’s integration of NFL Network assets and concerns over past on-air conduct, including a heated exchange with colleague Peter Schrager in which Clark referred to him as a “non-player.” Clark later apologized for the remark.

He had signed a contract in 2024 reportedly worth more than $2 million annually and had been expected to contribute to ESPN’s first Super Bowl broadcast. Other notable names were also affected by the broader cuts.

Clark posted a message of support for colleagues impacted by the layoffs, writing that he hoped new opportunities would open for those who had poured their lives into the company.
