Trump Issues Warning Over NFL Game in Paris

President Donald Trump raised serious concerns about the NFL’s decision to proceed with its first-ever regular-season game in Paris, suggesting the league should have considered postponing the matchup as widespread protests and violent demonstrations continue to disrupt France.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints are scheduled to meet Sunday at Stade de France, but escalating unrest has placed additional pressure on French law enforcement. With police resources stretched thin and another major sporting event already postponed, questions have emerged about whether authorities can adequately protect thousands of American football fans.

Speaking to reporters Friday, Trump questioned the timing of the game and warned that the situation in France could deteriorate further. The president suggested NFL officials should reconsider proceeding with the contest under the circumstances.

Trump said the league “could’ve probably postponed that match,” adding that the country was facing serious problems.

The president also connected the unrest to broader political and immigration policies, arguing that France’s difficulties reflected the consequences of decisions made by left-wing leaders.

His comments came as French authorities prepared for another weekend of demonstrations involving thousands of protesters, creating substantial security challenges across the country.

Despite the warnings, the NFL has maintained that Sunday’s game can proceed safely, with league officials expressing confidence in their preparations.

The Steelers have already canceled a scheduled fan event in the Paris area, underscoring concerns surrounding activities outside the stadium.

Meanwhile, a separate soccer match involving Paris Saint-Germain was postponed after local police requested additional flexibility to manage available security resources.

French authorities reportedly cited ongoing demonstrations, public safety concerns and the demands associated with hosting the NFL game as factors behind the decision.

The developments have prompted questions about why one major sporting event was postponed while the American football matchup remains scheduled.

Dani Watt, the wife of Steelers defensive star T.J. Watt, publicly questioned the decision to continue with the game.

“Tell me how this one makes sense???” she wrote on social media.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has remained supportive of proceeding and reportedly discussed security arrangements with Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Rubio subsequently indicated that American diplomatic officials in France believed the game could take place safely.

French authorities have confronted protesters amid incidents involving damaged property, burning vehicles and clashes with police in recent days.

Officials have also faced legal challenges over restrictions on demonstrations, adding another complication to their efforts to maintain public order.

For now, the Steelers and Saints remain scheduled to play Sunday in Paris, leaving the NFL’s historic international matchup under heightened scrutiny following Trump’s warning.
