WNBA’s DiJonai Carrington Strikes Again — Two More Face Hits

Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington is back in the spotlight after making contact with two more players’ faces just days after a controversial Flagrant 2 foul on Sophie Cunningham. During Wednesday’s 91-71 loss to the Golden State Valkyries, Carrington poked Cecilia Zandalasini in the eye while defending on the perimeter.

Her left hand was positioned such that contact with Zandalasini’s face appeared unavoidable. Later, while contesting a layup by Tiffany Hayes, Carrington’s arm came down across Hayes’ mouth instead of the ball.

Neither play drew a flagrant foul, though Carrington received her second technical of the season for arguing with a referee. The incidents followed her hard foul on Cunningham on August 8 that left the Indiana Fever star with a bloody mouth and resulted in Carrington’s ejection.

After that ejection, Carrington posted “WHITE PRIVILEGE” on Instagram Threads. She later clarified on X: “I’ve never once claimed that the assessment of the foul was white privilege (that was your assumption)… I would never use that term as a rhetorical weapon knowing the historical and social weight it holds without having the proper evidence to substantiate it.”

Carrington has previously rejected the “dirty player” label. In a June 2025 post she wrote that fans “swear i’m such a dirty player” but insisted she simply plays hard and always tries to make a play on the ball. The WNBA has offered no public comment on the Cunningham incident, the social media post, or the latest face contacts despite requests for response.

Cunningham herself came off the bench for Chicago in the Golden State game, scoring just three points on 1-for-9 shooting. The league’s silence continues to fuel debate over consistency in player discipline.
