Trump Demands Action Against NBC Star Over On-Air Comments

President Donald Trump said Sunday he would report NBC’s Kristen Welker to the Federal Communications Commission for “rebuke or punishment” after she called his 2026 primary endorsements a story of “mixed results.” Welker, host of “Meet the Press,” made the remark on Washington affiliate WRC-TV, not on the Sunday show itself.

“He’s going to loom large over these midterms. There’s no doubt about that. He, of course, has endorsed a slate of candidates in the primaries. He’s had some mixed results, but most recently, his pick of Senator Darline Graham, of course, the sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, was successful in her primary battle, so now she takes on Dr. Annie Andrews in South Carolina,” Welker said.

Trump answered on Truth Social by citing recent wins and long-term numbers. “Kristen Welker, the Unpopular ‘Hostess’ of the once great Meet the Press, now considered Meet the Fake Press, just stated that Donald Trump has ‘mixed results’ on his Endorsements of Candidates, when the recent WINS of Darline Graham and Mike Mazzei, stand at 100% for the U.S. Senate, and 98% for the U.S. House, recently and over the longterm,” he wrote.

“How can anyone be allowed to say this, working for freely given Public Airwaves? Results are attached. Because of this purposeful inaccuracy, she will be reported to the FCC for rebuke or punishment,” he added.

He argued the press is using “mixed results” language to downplay what he called a 99 percent overall success rate and a 100 percent Senate endorsement rate. “In actuality, it is, without question, the strongest Endorsement in the History of Politics,” Trump wrote.

He then addressed FCC Chairman Brendan Carr directly. “The Press is a Disgrace to our Nation, and I hope that Chairman Brendan Carr, and the fine people of his Commission, will take this Threat to our Country very seriously.”

Trump attached figures he said showed a 98.35 percent success rate for his endorsed House and Senate candidates in 2026 primaries. He highlighted Darline Graham’s South Carolina Senate primary win and Mike Mazzei’s Oklahoma gubernatorial primary win.

The FCC has a narrow news-distortion policy. The agency says it cannot censor and does not referee ordinary disputes over whether a report is accurate. Any inquiry would have to focus on whether a statement was deliberately meant to mislead viewers. Whether Carr’s commission even opens a file is the unresolved next step.
