‘Home Alone’ Star Tim Curry Dies at 80

Tim Curry, the British actor who made Dr. Frank-N-Furter a cult fixture and later turned hotel managers and clowns into unforgettable screen figures, has died at 80.

He passed away overnight Monday at his Los Angeles home, according to TMZ.

Curry is best known for The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the 1975 musical that never left midnight theaters. He also played the evil clown in the original IT miniseries and the exasperated hotel manager in Home Alone 2.

His film list also included Clue, Congo, Muppet Treasure Island, and Annie.

Voice work filled out a second career. Curry appeared in video games and animated series including Gargoyles, Paddington Bear, Peter Pan and the Pirates, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Sonic the Hedgehog.

On stage, he played King Arthur in the Monty Python musical Spamalot from 2004 to 2007. Other credits included What About Dick?, My Favorite Year, and Travesties.

In 2015 he received The Actors Fund Lifetime Achievement Award at the Tony Awards.

In July 2012 he suffered a massive stroke from blood clots in his brain. He was left unable to walk and used a wheelchair. He largely withdrew from public life but still appeared in selected projects.

At a 2025 screening marking Rocky Horror’s 50th anniversary, Curry told the audience his health was not likely to improve.

“I still can’t walk, which is why I’m in this silly chair, and that’s very limiting,” he said. “So, I won’t be singing and I won’t be dancing very soon. I still have real problems with my left leg.”

Timothy James Curry was born in Cheshire, England, in 1946. His mother, Patricia, was a school secretary. His father, James, was a Royal Navy chaplain. His sister, Judith, died in 2001.
