The Number DHS Just Revealed About Illegal Immigrants Is Almost Impossible to Believe

The Department of Homeland Security has issued more than 100,000 civil fines totaling roughly $84 billion to illegal immigrants since President Trump returned to office, collecting about $1.2 billion in payments so far.

The fines, set at $998 per day, apply to individuals under final removal orders who refuse to leave the country voluntarily. DHS has said it may seize assets from those who fail to pay.

Officials argue the program is far less costly than traditional deportation proceedings and encourages voluntary departure. Non-criminal migrants who self-deport may keep earnings and preserve future eligibility for legal immigration; some receive subsidized flights home.

DHS previously reported that more than 3 million illegal immigrants left the United States in Trump’s first year back, with an estimated 2.2 million self-deporting. The agency has also deported nearly 900,000 and arrested more than 900,000 others.

The figures reflect a sharp shift in enforcement strategy aimed at reversing record border crossings of previous years.
