The Dark Side of Mamdani’s NYC Exposed in Brutal Video

Turning Point USA released a 20-minute documentary by its Frontlines team examining the rise of the Democratic Socialists of America and the economic impacts of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s agenda in New York City.

Reporter Savannah Hernandez explores how the policies affect small business owners and taxpayers, focusing on government intervention in the economy.

Mamdani has proposed five city-owned grocery stores to make food more affordable. One planned site in East Harlem’s La Marqueta involves a $30 million, 9,000-square-foot store set to open in 2029, with $70 million allocated for the initiative. Supporters say it helps struggling New Yorkers, but business owners fear competition.

Critics of the rent-freeze agenda argue it could discourage landlords from investing and worsen the housing shortage. Interviewee Sweeney stated: “If you freeze the rent and you make a limit for how much landlords can make by way of profit, by the cost of rent, then landlords who are just trying to seek a profit don’t have a financial incentive to be landlords.”

Mamdani has also proposed taxing properties valued above $5 million, with the announcement made outside billionaire Ken Griffin’s Manhattan penthouse.

The documentary examines NYC DSA co-chair Gustavo Gordillo, noting his family wealth and living arrangements, which have faced scrutiny.

Josefina, owner of Little Mexico Meat Market, which has operated for nearly three decades in East Harlem, voted for Mamdani but expressed fears of losing her business. She said, “So if he puts a steak for $7 and I have it for $10, it’s obvious that they’re going to buy the $7 one, right? And I know he’s bringing in his jobs, but then I’ll be losing my job.”

She added, “And this store pays for my mortgage, for my tuition, for my kids’ tuition… Is he really helping the community? Is the question.” She felt betrayed, noting, “It feels kind of a betrayal because it would have been nice if he would at least come and speak to us about it.”

Grocery owners and landlords have filed legal challenges against the policies. The documentary, shared by TPUSA’s Frontlines account, includes on-the-ground reporting. A teaser states that the Democratic Socialists of America are rising, New York is the epicenter, and New Yorkers are already living with the results of Mamdani’s policies after he took office in January.

The film questions whether the policies will deliver affordability or create economic burdens as DSA-backed candidates gain influence beyond New York City.
