‘Disgrace to Our Country’: Trump Threatens Ilhan Omar With Jail, Deportation

President Donald Trump issued a warning to Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, suggesting the congresswoman could face imprisonment or deportation as federal authorities investigate allegations involving her citizenship. The president made the remarks during an Oval Office appearance, adding to an escalating dispute between his administration and the outspoken Democratic lawmaker.
The investigation reportedly centers on questions about information submitted during Omar’s family’s immigration process, particularly her age when her father became a U.S. citizen. Investigators are examining allegations that could affect how she obtained citizenship. Omar has denied wrongdoing and accused the administration of pursuing a politically motivated investigation.

Trump addressed the controversy after FOX Business correspondent Edward Lawrence asked whether questions surrounding Omar’s age could potentially result in her deportation.
“Well, she could be. She could also go to jail,” Trump responded. “You know, they keep talking about deportation. No, she could go to jail.”
The president did not announce any criminal charges against Omar or present new evidence supporting the allegations during the exchange.
“This is just my opinion,” Trump added, describing Omar as “a very dishonest person” who “hates our country.”
The remarks followed statements from White House border czar Tom Homan, who previously suggested Omar could lose her citizenship if federal investigators establish that immigration fraud occurred.
Federal agents searched Omar’s Washington, D.C., residence on October 12, reportedly confiscating her cellphone and other belongings as part of the investigation.
According to Fox News, authorities are examining allegations that Omar or her father provided inaccurate information about her birth year during the immigration process.
The disputed timeline concerns whether Omar was younger than 18 when her father became an American citizen in 2000, potentially allowing her to obtain citizenship through him.
If she had already reached adulthood, different citizenship requirements may have applied. Investigators are examining whether the information provided at the time was accurate.
Omar has rejected the accusations, maintaining that she did nothing wrong. She and other Democrats have characterized the investigation as an effort to target one of Trump’s most prominent congressional critics.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has also criticized the investigation, joining Democrats who argue that the administration is engaging in political persecution ahead of the midterm elections.
Homan addressed the allegations during an appearance on Fox News’ “The Big Weekend Show,” emphasizing that any potential action would depend on the evidence investigators uncover.
“Of course, if you lie during the naturalization process, there is a process to denaturalize somebody. We’ve done it before,” Homan said. “And certainly, if the evidence points that way, that could happen.”
The border czar declined to disclose specific findings but indicated that federal authorities were continuing their work.
“I’m not going to get ahead of the bureau or HSI, but I’ve been told they have a strong case, and we’ll let the evidence lead where it leads,” Homan said.
During Tuesday’s Oval Office exchange, Trump also criticized Omar’s statements about the United States, questioning her political positions and her role in Congress.
“Then she comes over here, and she says that she wants to tell us how to run America,” Trump said. “She wants to tell us how to run the United States of America.”
Trump concluded by calling Omar “a disgrace to our country,” although he also said, “I hope they treat her fairly.” No criminal charges or judicial findings against Omar were identified in the report, and the allegations remain unresolved.
