Leavitt began serving in the position in January 2025. At 27 years old when she took the role, she became the youngest White House press secretary in American history. The position made Leavitt one of the administration’s most recognizable public figures.
As press secretary, she regularly stood behind the White House podium and answered questions from the national press corps. She was responsible for communicating the administration’s positions on major domestic and foreign policy issues. Leavitt also became known as an aggressive and unwavering defender of Trump’s agenda. Her appearances frequently placed her directly opposite reporters challenging the administration’s policies and decisions.
