New Details: Cindy Crawford’s son dies at 27

Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, died Sunday while staying at a rehabilitation facility. Los Angeles County Medical Examiner records listed the cause as deferred while the investigation continued.

Santa Monica police said they were treating the death as a suspected overdose. A family representative asked for privacy during what they called a very difficult and painful time.

Months earlier, Gerber had posted a video from a clinic in Cancún, Mexico, where he was preparing for an ibogaine treatment. The plant-derived psychedelic is not legal in the United States, though researchers have studied it as a possible option for opioid and cocaine addiction.

“Quiet moment before everything changed,” he wrote. “I was absolutely terrified, and I knew I would be again if I ever had to face something like this.”

He said surrendering control was hard, but he believed something larger was guiding him. He also wrote that he was praying it would be the last time he needed that kind of treatment.

His last Instagram post came Aug. 5, a caption-free carousel of outdoor photos in Vuori clothing. Family members had publicly backed earlier recovery posts. Crawford called him a warrior. Rande wrote that facing what is hard takes real strength. Sister Kaia Gerber added, “That’s my brother. I am so damn proud.”

Gerber had spoken about depression, panic attacks, and addiction for years. On the 2023 “Studio 22” podcast he called mental health “a 24/7 job” and said he hoped his mistakes might spare someone else the same path.

In 2024 he started “Mental Health Mondays.” In November 2025 he said he had stepped off social media to take care of himself. A December video later described medications including buprenorphine, Xanax, and Valium, and he said he had seen about 15 psychiatrists.

Kaia discussed the strain in an August Vogue interview, describing a long family struggle and saying her brother had become “very human for everyone.” The medical examiner said limited information was available while the inquiry remained open.
