Hollywood Stars Make Stunning Midterm Pledge

Jamie Lee Curtis, Robert De Niro, Noah Wyle, and Martin Sheen appeared in a Constitution Day video for the American Constitution Society, reciting language modeled on the federal oath of office.

Each introduced themselves. Sheen used his given name, Ramón Gerard Estévez. Retired Army Col. Isaiah “Ike” Wilson III and former judge J. Michael Luttig also took part.

They recited, in pieces, that they would support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and bear true faith and allegiance without mental reservation or purpose of evasion.

Curtis said she was proud to affirm the oath. The group closed together: “And I hope you will, too.”

The wording tracks congressional, military, and naturalization oaths, with one notable cut. The celebrities left out “So help me God.”

The society billed the clip as the launch of “The Oath Project,” calling it a nonpartisan invitation to record and share a similar pledge before the midterms.

The Instagram caption urged people to take the oath alone or with a community, make it their own, and invite others.

Critics treated the production as midterm messaging dressed as civic ritual. The participants are longtime public critics of Donald Trump, which shaped how the video was received.

The society still framed the campaign as an open invitation rather than an endorsement slate. The video’s timing, weeks before midterm voting, is what turned a recitation into a political event.
