Jelly Roll Fires Back at Angry Trump Fans

Country music star Jelly Roll recently stepped in as host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! and devoted a substantial portion of his opening monologue to pointed criticism of President Donald Trump. Jelly Roll made penis and fat jokes about Trump that many people found tasteless.
Trump supporters online accused him of selling out and pledged to boycott the music.
Responding to backlash from Trump supporters, Jelly Roll said, “Some folks online were upset that I didn’t treat the president with reverence and dignity. But I want to remind y’all that I go by the name Jelly Roll.”

“For those who threatened to stop listening to my music based on my comments last night, I just want to say with conviction: go right ahead,” Jelly Roll responded. He did not walk the jokes back and invited the boycott. He then added that he was going to “keep speaking my truth.”
He said he was hosting “a damn late-night show.” “That’s where you talk about the news and you make jokes.”
“You know Mr. president, from one fat pig to another,” Jelly Roll joked. “Take it from me, physical fitness is very important. Trust me, you’ll be happy to see your penis again.”
He continued, referring to the Freedom 250 Grand Prix held in Washington, D.C., “Let’s talk about the main event of America this weekend. It was the big IndyCar race hosted by the president.”
“The cars drove through the streets of D.C., and there’s Donald Trump who apparently has never held a flag before.”
Reacting to footage of the president waving a flag during the event marking America’s semisesquicentennial, he added, “What a s*** job! How do you f*** up waving a flag?”
The “Son of a Sinner” performer continued, “But the president seemed to enjoy the IndyCar race, which was a real switch up for him, ’cause normally he only likes his own race.”
Jelly Roll then mocked Trump’s ceremonial drive around the course. “Trump also drove around the track in his motorcade, doing what they call the lap of honor, which sounds like a loyalty program at a strip club,” he quipped. “Five percent cash back in the champagne room for all Lap of Honor members.”
“It’s crazy. Think about this, y’all. In the last few years, I’ve lost 300 lb. That means I’ve lost an entire Donald Trump,” the singer observed. “And let’s be honest, based on his approval ratings, it seems like most of the country wants to do the same thing.”
A montage followed of Trump making jokes about other people’s weight. “Well if that ain’t the pot calling the kettle fat,” Jelly Roll remarked. His remarks directed at the president drew strong applause from the studio audience.
