New Epstein Bombshell as Ex-JPMorgan Exec Testifies

A House Oversight Committee transcript shows former JPMorgan Chase executive Jes Staley telling lawmakers he repeatedly shared confidential, market-sensitive bank information with Jeffrey Epstein.

The closed-door interview was July 24. Staley appeared as part of the committee’s Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell inquiry.

He said he gave Epstein details of the bank’s communications with the Federal Reserve during the 2008 crisis, a figure of $44 billion in private-bank inflows over two weeks, and information on pending deals.

Lawmakers also asked about messages covering his pay, client relationships, and his later move to Barclays.

Staley said he believed he had authority to share what he considered appropriate. He described a close professional relationship and said he did not know of Epstein’s crimes.

He also said he warned Epstein about large cash withdrawals and that the bank had marked him a high-risk client.

Staley spent more than three decades at JPMorgan, including running the private bank that counted Epstein as a client. He led Barclays from 2015 until 2021.

He told the committee he was named in connection with Epstein’s estate years after the 2008 conviction, signed trust papers in 2014 and an amendment in 2015, then declined to serve and took no pay.

JPMorgan declined to comment. Staley’s lawyers did not immediately respond. Epstein died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges.
