FBI Arrests Multiple Non-Citizens for Voting in Swing States

U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle of the Eastern District of North Carolina announced that a federal grand jury returned indictments against ten noncitizens accused of illegally voting in the 2024 elections.

The charges allege that each individual falsely claimed United States citizenship in order to register and cast ballots in the general election.

Falsely claiming citizenship for voting purposes is a felony that can carry a sentence of up to five years in prison.

One defendant is described as an illegal alien, while the other nine are lawful permanent residents.

Eduardd Omar Majano Sosa, a 22-year-old native of El Salvador living in Cumberland County, faces one count of falsely claiming citizenship to vote and one count of voting by an alien.

Prosecutors say he registered in 2024 and voted in that year’s general election.

Two German nationals from Cumberland County each face the same pair of charges.

One registered in 2018 and voted in both the 2024 and 2020 general elections, while the other registered in 2008 and participated in multiple general elections from 2008 through 2024.

A third German national, aged 71 and also in Cumberland County, registered in 2004 and voted in general elections spanning from 2004 to 2024, along with a 2008 primary.

A native of the former Yugoslavia residing in Robeson County registered in 2008 and voted in general elections in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2016, 2020, 2022, and 2024, plus additional primaries and a special election.

Two Jamaican nationals were charged as well.

One from Wayne County registered in 2007 and 2012 and voted in the 2012, 2020, and 2024 general elections, while another from Harnett County faces a single count of falsely claiming citizenship to vote after registering and voting in 2024.

Three additional defendants from Haiti, Canada, and Panama each face both counts, with the Canadian having registered in 1998 and voted across multiple elections through 2024.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated, “Protecting American elections from criminal interference continues to be one of the top priorities of this FBI. Today with our Justice Department partners we are announcing arrests and indictments of ten individuals – including one illegal alien and nine non-citizens – who illegally voted in the 2024 election in North Carolina, as alleged. American elections are for American citizens.”

The announcements involved the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, and Justice Department partners.
