Top Official Leaves Trump Admin

Patrick Witt’s temporary assignment as executive director of the White House Crypto Council has ended, creating a vacancy in the administration’s digital asset policy team.

The White House confirmed on October 14 that the assignment expired, with no successor named.

Witt had been detailed from the Department of Defense and helped guide negotiations on the CLARITY Act, which seeks a federal framework for digital asset markets.

The House passed its version of the legislation in July 2025, but Senate discussions stalled over issues including stablecoin rewards and safeguards related to presidential conflicts of interest.

The bill failed a Senate procedural vote in September and did not advance further.

Witt had originally planned to depart in July for mandatory Georgia Army National Guard training, though that training was postponed.

The White House attributed the departure solely to the end of the temporary assignment and indicated no dismissal or shift in crypto policy.

His exit follows earlier departures from the senior crypto team this year.

David Sacks left his role as the White House’s AI and crypto czar in March after reaching the service limit for special government employees.

Deputy Director Harry Jung departed in July.

With Witt’s assignment concluded, the administration has not publicly identified who will coordinate ongoing crypto legislative efforts ahead of the midterm elections.
