Gunman Opens Fire On News Station

Police in Bakersfield, California, are investigating two shootings targeting a local television station within a matter of days. The incidents occurred at the KBAK/KBFX studios, where gunfire struck portions of the building used by employees, raising serious concerns about the safety of journalists and other staff members.
The first shooting occurred when someone fired approximately 10 rounds into the television station. A second shooting followed this week prompting investigators to examine whether the attacks were connected and whether the same individual was responsible.
ALERT: Gunman pulls up to a news station in 2 seperate occasions and allegedly opens fire at the building from his car in California.
A black sedan drove up and parked across the street from KBAK/KBFX in Bakersfield on Friday and this morning and allegedly opened fire at the building.
Muzzle flash can be seen through the driver’s-side window after the car sits idle for about 2 minutes.
The Bakersfield Police Department said 10 shots were fired into a conference room within the station.
“Thankfully, no one was injured. The safety and well-being of our employees is our top priority, and we are taking appropriate steps to ensure a safe and secure workplace. We appreciate the efforts of local law enforcement as the investigation continues.”

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either incident. However, bullets entered areas of the newsroom complex, including an office and conference room, creating potentially dangerous conditions for employees working inside.
Surveillance footage captured a suspicious black vehicle approaching the station during one of the attacks. The vehicle reportedly remained outside the building for approximately two minutes before several flashes appeared near the driver’s side window.
Moments later, the vehicle drove away from the property. Investigators are examining the footage as they work to identify the person responsible and determine what prompted the gunfire.
Authorities reported that approximately 10 shots struck the building during Friday’s incident. The damage to occupied work areas underscored the potential danger, even though employees escaped without injury.
Tuesday’s shooting intensified concerns because the same television station had been targeted just four days earlier. Police have not publicly established whether the incidents involved a single suspect.
KBAK and KBFX operate under Sinclair Inc., which confirmed that it is cooperating with local authorities during the investigation.
Sinclair spokesperson Jessica Belluci addressed the initial attack in a statement, saying, “We are cooperating fully with the Bakersfield Police Department as it investigates a shooting incident at our KBAK/KBFX studios Friday evening.”
Belluci also emphasized the company’s responsibility to protect its employees as investigators continue their work.
“Thankfully, no one was injured. The safety and well-being of our employees is our top priority, and we are taking appropriate steps to ensure a safe and secure workplace. We appreciate the efforts of local law enforcement as the investigation continues.”
The shootings have also drawn reactions from journalists employed by the station, including weekend anchor and reporter Shelby Martin.
Martin expressed relief on Instagram that her colleagues were unharmed following the frightening incident.
“I am very grateful that my colleagues are safe and nobody was hurt in Friday’s shooting at the station,” Martin said. “We will continue to provide updates on the air and online.”
The repeated gunfire has raised questions about whether the station was deliberately targeted and what additional security precautions may be necessary.
Investigators have not publicly identified a suspect or announced a motive. Officials have also stopped short of confirming that the two shootings were carried out by the same person.
The incidents highlight the potential dangers faced by media employees when violence reaches their workplaces. Gunfire directed at an office building can endanger journalists and other workers regardless of the shooter’s intentions.
The Bakersfield Police Department’s investigation remains ongoing, with authorities seeking to establish who carried out the attacks and why the television station was targeted.
