Kai Trump Breaks Down on Camera: ‘Struggling Right Now’

Kai Trump, the granddaughter of President Donald Trump, posted a vlog that starts the way a lot of freshman years actually start: in a car, crying, trying to explain why leaving home feels bigger than the drive.

The 18-year-old documented her last days in Jupiter, Florida, before moving to the University of Miami, where she will play golf. She opened with footage of herself in tears behind the wheel.

“I’m not a very emotional person at all, so this is like really weird for me to cry,” she said, noting she has “only cried a few times” in her life.

The goodbye was the part that landed. “I think knowing that I have to say goodbye to everyone tonight really, really sucks,” she said. “I’m struggling right now, just thinking about it.”

She did not leave it there. “I’m moving on. … It happens to everyone. It’s time to move on.”

She chose not to film the actual farewells. “It was just, like, sad. I just wanted to say goodbye. It was, like, hard to film because I wanted to be, like, present with my family, so I just didn’t film it.”

Her mother, Vanessa Trump, helped shop and haul boxes for the new apartment. Kai called her “the BEST mom” and said she was “so grateful.” Vanessa, after hours of errands, sounded spent: “I’m totally exhausted from going to her apartment, coming back and forth and moving everything.”

There was a joke in the middle of it. Vanessa, who has five children with Donald Trump Jr., said, “I think this is amazing. One child out and four more to go.”

Later clips from campus life described the other freshman realities — early team meetings, strep throat, and a stretch when she said she “hasn’t eaten in like three days.” She also said she had been “literally sobbing.”

The video is not a policy statement. It is a teenager leaving home on camera. For a family that lives under permanent flashbulbs, that ordinary ache is the story.
