Undercover Video Exposes Democrat’s Church — Teaches ‘Inclusive Bible’ for Gender and LGBTQ

An undercover video from Daily Caller editor Amber Duke put St. Andrew’s Presbyterian in Austin under scrutiny because of its ties to Texas Senate candidate James Talarico.

The church baptized Talarico, married his parents, and still claims him. Pastor Jim Rigby, described as Talarico’s longtime mentor, told an undercover journalist the church “typically” gives new members The Inclusive Bible.

“It’s good on the gender stuff,” Rigby said. He added that for “metaphysical stuff,” it is “not a very good translation,” and that a good translation lets people “let go of the stupid stuff.”

The 2007 edition, produced by Priests for Equality, strips gendered titles. Critics say it drops “Son of God” and “Son of Man” for Jesus and treats “the Lord” as sexist and classist.

During a service captured on video, a woman handed a copy to a new member named Larry and said, “It’s been rewritten so that there is only inclusive language and that it doesn’t use the gender-fueled language that the King James Version uses.”

The translators swap “Lord” for “Most High” or “Sovereign One,” and “Father” for “Abba” or “Loving God.” Christ’s titles become phrases such as “Only Begotten” or “God’s Own.”

Texas Scorecard has quoted the church’s line that calling God male is “perhaps the most sexist comment a person can make.”

The footage, recorded in August and circulated in September, turned a translation debate into a campaign issue in Talarico’s Senate race.
