DOJ Announces Major Election Crackdown

The Justice Department announced charges against 16 people in multiple states for election crimes, including noncitizens casting ballots, with the midterms weeks away.

A DOJ official summed up the message: “American elections are for Americans.” The department posted, “If you are not allowed to vote in our elections, you shouldn’t. And if you do, that’s a CRIME. This isn’t a partisan issue!”

The charges cover illegal voting, illegal registration, wire fraud, passport and identity fraud, and some firearm counts.

Attorney General Todd Blanche had separately announced 11 charges tied to 2022 and 2024 elections. “We are seeing illegal aliens voting,” he told reporters.

Eight of the new defendants live in Texas. Other cases were filed in Idaho, Georgia, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, New Jersey, and Michigan.

In Georgia, prosecutors say Analiea Milliscent Eccles, a Venezuelan national and DACA recipient, voted nine times between 2008 and 2024 and falsely claimed citizenship to vote.

In Idaho, Mexican national Avila Gomez is accused of false citizenship claims to register and of voting in May 2022 and November 2024, plus wire fraud, passport, ID, and gun counts.

In New Jersey, lawful permanent resident Santana Coulibaly allegedly registered in 2016 and voted in federal races through 2024, with added naturalization-related charges.

Assistant Attorney General Colin M. McDonald said the administration has now charged 50 noncitizens with illegal voting. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin told Fox there are more than 1,620 open cases, 151 arrests, and about 300,000 suspected files. “Every single vote that was at the hands of an illegal (immigrant), canceled out a citizen that was legally registered and able to vote,” he said.
