Leavitt subsequently joined Trump's first administration, serving as a presidential writer and assistant press secretary. Those positions gave her experience preparing communications for the executive branch and working alongside senior officials responsible for representing the president's policies to the American public.

Elise Stefanik, who was serving as chair of the House Republican Conference, placing Leavitt in a prominent congressional communications role.
