A federal grand jury in South Florida has indicted Carmen Lineberger, former Managing Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Fort Pierce office, on four counts including alteration and unauthorized transmission of government records.
Prosecutors allege Lineberger disguised sensitive Department of Justice documents — including a sealed portion of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s report on President Trump’s classified documents case — as “Chocolate_cake_recipe.pdf” and “Bundt_Cake_Recipe.pdf” before emailing them to her personal Hotmail and Gmail accounts in late 2025.
The material had been ordered sealed by U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon. Lineberger appeared in federal court Wednesday in West Palm Beach, pleaded not guilty, and was released on her own recognizance.
She faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted on the lead charge.
