Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville cruised to victory Tuesday in Alabama’s Republican gubernatorial primary, becoming the overwhelming favorite to succeed term-limited Gov. Kay Ivey.
The former Auburn football coach and Trump ally easily defeated his challengers, leveraging strong name recognition, robust fundraising, and the president’s endorsement in the deep-red state.
Tuberville now heads into a likely November rematch against Democrat Doug Jones, whom he defeated by roughly 20 points in the 2020 Senate race.
Republicans are expected to hold the governor’s mansion.
