Amazon founder Jeff Bezos pushed back against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s statement that “you can’t earn a billion dollars,” calling it incorrect.

In a CNBC interview, Bezos explained that billionaires are often created by scaling successful businesses that millions of people voluntarily choose — using the example of starting with one popular burger joint and expanding to a thousand outlets.

The comments come amid ongoing debate over wealth inequality, with the conservative outlet siding with Bezos’s defense of earned wealth through value creation over AOC’s view that such fortunes require exploitation or rule-breaking.
