Fox News host Greg Gutfeld and several colleagues paid tribute to a longtime supporter after the Texas man was killed in an apparent random attack. Andrew James Wimsatt, 62, was killed on Labor Day while sitting near a park bench in Round Rock, Texas.

Police arrested 26-year-old Benedict Ogbodiegwu Jr. and charged him with murder. Authorities allege surveillance footage showed the suspect approaching Wimsatt from behind and attacking him with a knife. The incident happened shortly before 11 a.m. near Double File Trail Elementary School.

According to investigators, Wimsatt attempted to defend himself during the attack but was unable to escape. A woman discovered him with severe injuries shortly afterward and contacted police.

Detectives later used surveillance footage to track a suspect to a nearby McDonald’s and a red SUV connected to his family.

Authorities said investigators also recovered clothing resembling what was seen in surveillance footage, along with a large knife. Police said the blade presumptively tested positive for blood.

Investigators believe Wimsatt and the suspect did not know one another, leading authorities to describe the killing as a random attack.

Wimsatt was a civil engineer who earned three degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. He also became familiar to several Fox News personalities through years of clipping and sharing their television appearances online.

Gutfeld remembered Wimsatt as “supremely gentle, willing to do just about anything for another person.”

Fox News contributor Tyrus, whose real name is George Timothy Murdoch, described Wimsatt as “always positive … with a monster laugh.”

Kat Timpf also shared a tribute, saying, “Andrew was a rare person: Genuinely kind just for the sake of it; it quite clearly never occurred to him to expect anything in return.”

Wimsatt reportedly created video clips for Timpf’s online community and archived television appearances for several commentators without seeking payment.

The case has also brought renewed attention to Ogbodiegwu’s previous encounters with the criminal justice system. He previously faced theft-related charges, including cases that were later dismissed.

Ogbodiegwu now faces a murder charge in connection with Wimsatt’s death.

For Gutfeld and others who knew Wimsatt through his years of support, the case became deeply personal — marking the sudden loss of someone they remembered for his generosity, kindness and willingness to help others.
