BREAKING: Two Ex-FBI Officials Arrested in Hunter Biden Laptop Investigation

Two former senior FBI officials have been arrested and charged with allegedly lying to Congress about their involvement in investigations concerning Hunter Biden, including the controversial laptop that became a major issue during the 2020 presidential election.
The Department of Justice announced Friday that Nikki Cole Floris, 46, and Bradley Benavides, 56, surrendered to federal authorities after criminal complaints accused them of providing false information to congressional investigators. Both previously held senior positions within the FBI’s counterintelligence operations.
Federal prosecutors allege that the former officials misrepresented their knowledge of investigations involving former President Joe Biden’s son during congressional testimony in 2023. The charges follow years of Republican scrutiny surrounding the FBI’s handling of politically sensitive information before the 2020 election.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro condemned the alleged misconduct, arguing that dishonesty by senior federal law enforcement officials threatens public confidence in government institutions. She emphasized that officials entrusted with protecting the country must be held accountable for their actions.
The allegations center on the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force, a specialized unit responsible for identifying foreign interference and disinformation campaigns. Floris previously served in a leadership capacity within the task force, while Benavides held a senior supervisory position.
According to federal investigators, Floris denied participating in discussions about Hunter Biden when she appeared before the House Judiciary Committee in July 2023.
Prosecutors contend that internal FBI communications contradict her testimony. Email records allegedly show that Floris discussed matters involving Hunter Biden with other bureau personnel despite her previous denials.

Benavides faces similar accusations stemming from his September 2023 congressional testimony. When questioned about his knowledge of the Hunter Biden laptop investigation, he reportedly attributed his awareness of the matter to information he had encountered on Wikipedia.
However, Justice Department investigators say communications obtained during their investigation indicate that Benavides had direct contact with FBI personnel involved in the case.
Federal authorities also allege that Benavides attended a meeting with members of the investigative team before speaking with congressional lawmakers, raising additional questions about the accuracy of his testimony.
Attorneys representing Floris strongly rejected the accusations, describing their client as a dedicated public servant who spent nearly two decades working in federal law enforcement.
Her legal team accused the Justice Department of pursuing a politically motivated prosecution, arguing that the allegations emerged years after the congressional testimony and shortly before the midterm elections.
“The government’s reasons for charging Nikki are as transparent as they are unjust,” her attorneys said, accusing prosecutors of attempting to score political points.
The investigation also renews attention on concerns previously raised by Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson, who questioned whether FBI officials attempted to undermine congressional scrutiny of Hunter Biden’s foreign business activities.

The senators had previously criticized a 2020 FBI briefing concerning Russian disinformation, suggesting that the presentation may have been used to cast doubt on their investigation into Biden’s business dealings.
Hunter Biden’s laptop became a major political controversy shortly before the 2020 presidential election. Although some initially questioned the authenticity of the material, the FBI subsequently authenticated the laptop during Hunter Biden’s federal gun trial in 2024.
FBI Director Kash Patel also addressed the arrests, stating that the bureau would not tolerate the misuse of federal law enforcement authority. He alleged that one of the individuals had privately claimed to be “running a shadow government” during the 2020 election.
Both defendants appeared in federal court in Washington on Friday. The criminal charges remain allegations, and neither former official has been convicted. They are presumed innocent unless prosecutors establish their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
