America’s Got Talent Crowns Winner — See Who Gets $1 Million

Nene Royal won season 21 of “America’s Got Talent” on the live results show Wednesday. The 16-year-old singer-guitarist takes the $1 million prize and a headlining slot in a Las Vegas live show.

Host Terry Crews first narrowed the night to Royal and magician Geno Ploeger, then announced that America had voted Royal the winner. The finale field had also included Acro Canine Crew, Come Here, Hundred Fingers, Lai Noelle, Olivia Befus, Royal Lasers, Unitree, and Veronika Goroshkova.

The two-night finale mixed last performances with guest pairings. Royal sang with Linkin Park on “The Emptiness Machine.” Ploeger worked with former winner Mat Franco. Josh Groban performed “Skyfall” while Goroshkova flew above the stage.

Results came out in pairs. Royal Lasers advanced over Come Here. Hundred Fingers advanced over Befus. Goroshkova advanced over Noelle. Royal advanced over Unitree. Ploeger took the last Top 5 spot over Acro Canine Crew. The last three were Ploeger, Royal, and Hundred Fingers.

Royal, from Phuket, Thailand, reached the finale on a Golden Buzzer. Her finale-week set included “Seven Nation Army.” Crews told the theater the teenager had enough votes to close the season.

Simon Cowell missed the finale after back surgery. Terry Crews read a note from him on the first finale night wishing the acts luck and joking that KSI should “hold onto your water when Mel B is around.”

The judging panel this season was Howie Mandel, Sofía Vergara, Mel B, and Cowell. The show added a Judges’ Callbacks round and expanded the Golden Buzzer count to 10.

Peacock will carry the episodes. For one night, the $1 million decision belonged to a 16-year-old with a guitar.
