The inquiry into the targeted killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson is still active, with the suspect remaining unidentified and the reasons behind the attack unknown. Engravings on the bullet shell casings found at the scene—specifically the words “deny,” “defend,” and “depose”—may provide insight into the shooter’s intentions.
Thompson was shot multiple times while walking outside a hotel in Manhattan and was pronounced dead after attempts to resuscitate him.
His wife, Paulette Thompson, confirmed that there had been threats against her husband prior to his death. Thompson said, “There had been some threats.”
Thompson added, “Basically, I don’t know, [over] a lack of coverage? I don’t know details,” adding, “I just know that he said there were some people that had been threatening him.”
Authorities are reportedly making progress in identifying the shooter and have obtained a search warrant for a location believed to be connected to the suspect.
