The least popular vice president in history, Kamala Harris, confirms her plan to attempt replacing Joe Biden and enter the 2024 president race.
After another long string of mental blunders and contracting COVID-19, 81-year-old Biden ended his bid for second term in White House and endorsed Kamala Harris.
Polls show Harris performing roughly the same as Biden against Trump, which means losing. Forbes reported, “One CBS News/YouGov poll conducted last week: Trump led Harris by three points (51%-48%), while leading Biden by five (52%-47%) among likely voters (the poll’s margin of error was 2.7 points).”
“However, an Economist/YouGov poll (margin of error 3.1) conducted July 13 – 16 and released Thursday found Biden would lose to Trump 41% to 43%, while Harris would perform slightly worse, losing to Trump 39% to 44%,” Forbes added.
“I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” Harris said.
Biden said, “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year.”
The vice president called Biden’s decision a “selfless and patriotic act,” adding that he is “doing what he has done throughout his life of service: putting the American people and our country above everything else.”
The vice president described Biden’s choice as a “patriotic and selfless action,” stating that he is “continuing to prioritize the American citizens and our nation, as he has done throughout his long career in public service.”
Harris has garnered support from some notable figures, such as former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, along with several Democratic lawmakers.
Nevertheless, numerous Democrats have commented on Biden’s decision without referring to Harris or expressing their support for her.
Biden’s choice to withdraw follows weeks of increasing pressure, particularly after a lackluster debate performance against former President Trump last month.
Leading up to his announcement, 37 congressional Democrats and their allies had urged him to exit the race.
Despite this mounting pressure, Biden had consistently insisted that he intended to continue his campaign until his recent statement on X.
