Police reportedly shoot, kill person near RNC perimeter in Milwaukee

via ABC

A man was shot and killed by police near the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, but the incident does not seem to be related to the convention, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

The shooting occurred outside the security perimeter, where officers encountered an individual wielding knives during an altercation.

Despite commands to drop the knives, the suspect charged at another individual, leading officers to fire their weapons, resulting in the suspect’s death.

The Columbus officers involved acted to protect lives, as confirmed by Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman.

“This unfolded. Somebody’s life was in immediate danger. Two knives were recovered from this situation. Someone’s life was in danger. These officers not from this area took upon themselves to act to save someone’s life,” Norman said.

The situation led to upset residents seeking answers, with some protests directed at the presence of outside officers.

“It is notable that the Columbus Ohio Police Department was present at our protest, putting themselves out there as supposed peacekeepers. It feels obvious to say that killing people, carrying weapons, is not a part of peacekeeping. It is also notable that the Milwaukee Police Department said they would keep outside agencies away from the broader Milwaukee community, which they failed to do,” the Colilation to March stated.
