The incident led to Black condemning the statement and halting the band’s touring activities for the year.
The video sparked controversy and prompted Black to express his disapproval of hate speech and political violence.
“I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday,” Black wrote. “I would never condone hate speech or political violence in any form.”
“After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding,” he added.
The situation reflects broader tensions regarding political rhetoric, with conservatives scrutinizing statements from liberals that they claim contribute to a hostile climate.
Senator J.D. Vance criticized Democrats for alleged extremist labeling of Trump, citing such rhetoric as potentially emboldening individuals like the recent attempted assassin of Trump.
