WASHINGTON (Analyzing America) — A 31-year-old California man identified as Cole Tomas Allen was arrested Saturday night after allegedly storming a security checkpoint outside the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner at the Washington Hilton, opening fire and wounding a Secret Service agent.
Allen, a tutor from Torrance, Calif., who had been named Teacher of the Month at a local education center, was subdued by law enforcement amid chaos that briefly disrupted the high-profile event attended by President Donald Trump.
Authorities say Allen was armed with multiple weapons and knives. He sent writings to family members minutes before the incident, referring to himself as a “Friendly Federal Assassin” and expressing grievances against Trump administration policies, with signs pointing to a politically motivated attack targeting the administration.
He faces preliminary federal charges including using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer. Arraignment is expected Monday. The agent was saved by a bulletproof vest; no other injuries were reported.
The FBI is investigating Allen’s background as a possible lone actor.
