Trump Looks To Make Daylight Saving Time Permanent

President Donald Trump is throwing his support behind the Sunshine Protection Act to end America’s twice-yearly clock changes and make daylight saving time permanent.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced the bill this week in a 48-1 vote. Trump praised the move on Truth Social, calling it “a very nice WIN for the Republican Party.”

The legislation, led by Sen. Rick Scott and Rep. Vern Buchanan of Florida, aims to provide more evening daylight, benefit businesses, and eliminate the disruptive biannual time shifts that affect sleep and schedules.

While the bill has bipartisan backing and passed the Senate unanimously in 2022 before stalling, critics — including some Republicans — warn permanent DST would result in dangerously dark winter mornings for schoolchildren.

Nineteen states have already signaled support for permanent daylight saving time if Congress approves the change.
