The family of NASCAR star Kyle Busch made their first public appearance since his sudden death on May 21 during pre-race ceremonies for the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday.
Wife Samantha, children Brexton and Lennix, brother Kurt, and parents Tom and Gaye joined NASCAR officials for an emotional tribute to the two-time Cup Series champion.
NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell led the ceremony, which included a moment of silence and “Amazing Grace” played on bagpipes.
The sport paid multiple tributes throughout the weekend, including a missing man formation during the race and a lap 8 silence by fans.
Busch died from complications of severe pneumonia that rapidly progressed to sepsis, respiratory failure, and cardiac arrest.
