Nancy Mace Seeks to Ban Foreign-Born Politicians from Congress

South Carolina Republican Rep. Nancy Mace introduced a joint resolution Wednesday proposing a constitutional amendment to require Members of Congress, federal judges, and Senate-confirmed officers to be natural-born U.S. citizens.

Mace cited Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN, born in Somalia), Shri Thanedar (D-MI, born in India), and Pramila Jayapal (D-WA, born in India) as examples, arguing they should meet the same “natural born citizen” standard already required for president and vice president.

“Members writing America’s laws… should have one loyalty: America,” Mace said on X.

The amendment aims to ensure top government officials prioritize U.S. interests.
