TV Anchor’s Hot-Mic Moment Explodes Into Lawsuit

A video has surfaced showing longtime Fox 2 Detroit anchor Taryn Asher in a heated newsroom confrontation in which she called a colleague a “b****.” The footage is now central to a legal battle over her removal from the air.
Asher was recording a public service announcement when the argument over scripts escalated. “I don’t think you are. You’re walking out really angry,” she said, followed by “B****.” She later added, “What the f***. Grow up,” and “I’m so done with her antics, telling on me every five seconds. I’m done.”
Asher was pulled from the air in November and is suing the station for sex discrimination and retaliation. She claims the network treated male employees more leniently. Fox maintains her removal followed repeated unprofessional behavior and outbursts.
In court filings, the station said multiple employees complained about Asher shouting, using profanity, and engaging in confrontational interactions. One incident involved her male co-anchor Roop Raj, whom she allegedly told, “You don’t own politics.”
Fox informed Asher in late November that she would not return due to “repeated outbursts in the newsroom and multiple instances of unprofessional conduct.” Asher denies the misconduct was severe enough to justify termination.
The video, first highlighted by industry outlets, has intensified the dispute. The case continues under federal and Michigan civil rights laws as both sides present their accounts of the workplace conflict.
