CNN Star Makes Big Career Move Amid Network Turmoil

CNN primetime host Abby Phillip has signed a new contract to remain with the network, according to a report from Variety. The move locks in one of the channel’s key evening voices amid major corporate uncertainty.

Phillip anchors the 10 p.m. program “CNN NewsNight,” hosts the Saturday show “Table for Five,” and produces a digital series. She joined CNN to cover the Trump administration and previously worked at The Washington Post, ABC News, and Politico.

A CNN spokesperson declined to discuss talent contracts. Sources said the network handled renewals individually as contracts came up rather than as a coordinated response to potential ownership changes.

The timing coincides with a proposed acquisition of CNN’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, by Paramount Skydance in a deal valued at roughly $110 billion including debt. The transaction has cleared federal antitrust review but faces state-level legal challenges.

Anderson Cooper renewed his contract last year, and Kaitlan Collins still has years remaining on hers. With Phillip’s new deal, the anchors of CNN’s three main primetime shows are secured for the foreseeable future.

The agreements include protections for the hosts regarding compensation if schedules or roles change. Phillip has not issued a public statement about the renewal.

The decision provides stability for CNN’s evening lineup as the larger media landscape continues to shift. Viewers will see the familiar faces continue in their current roles while corporate negotiations play out behind the scenes.
