Socialist Long Shot Humiliates Dem Favorite

Sen. Ashley Moody secured the Republican nomination for Florida’s U.S. Senate seat, setting up a clear ideological clash with Democratic Socialist Angie Nixon in November. The results delivered several notable takeaways for both parties.
President Donald Trump celebrated the Democratic primary outcome after Angie Nixon defeated retired Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman. “Sleaze Bag Vindman loses tonight to a Radical Left Lunatic,” Trump posted. “How cool is that???”
Nixon, a Florida state representative and member of the Democratic Socialists of America, overcame a massive fundraising disadvantage. Vindman raised more than $16 million while Nixon raised under $1 million, yet she prevailed by roughly 12 points.
Moody, appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis to fill the seat previously held by Marco Rubio, brings a law-and-order background as former state attorney general. Nixon has championed Medicare for All, expanded social programs, and cutting U.S. aid to Israel.
Florida once again demonstrated rapid and reliable election results. RNC officials pointed to the state as a model, noting that voters knew the outcomes quickly with strong bipartisan confidence in the process.
The general election will pit Moody’s focus on crime, fraud, and public safety against Nixon’s progressive activism. Democrats face the challenge of backing a DSA candidate in a state that has trended Republican, while Republicans see a favorable matchup.
The primary results highlighted both the growing influence of socialist-aligned candidates within the Democratic Party and the enduring strength of Trump-aligned messaging in Florida.
