The Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) has hired 77 new immigration judges and 5 temporary judges — the largest single class in its history.
The additions bring the total number of immigration judges to nearly 700. EOIR has now hired 153 permanent judges in the current fiscal year, a record high.
Since January 20, 2025, the immigration court backlog has dropped from approximately 4 million cases to under 3.53 million, a reduction of more than 447,000 cases.
