Colorado Democrats formally censured Governor Jared Polis on Wednesday after he commuted the prison sentence of former Mesa County election clerk Tina Peters.
The State Central Committee voted overwhelmingly β about 90% in favor β to condemn Polis for reducing Petersβ nearly nine-year sentence to 4.5 years.
The censure bars Polis from speaking at Democratic Party events or appearing as a featured guest.
Democrats criticized the move as undermining election integrity and sending the wrong message on election tampering, especially under pressure from President Trump.
Peters was convicted for illegally allowing unauthorized access to voting machines after the 2020 election.
Polis defended the decision, calling the original sentence overly harsh and emphasizing it was a commutation, not a pardon.
