Democrat Eric Swalwell Faces Sexual Assault Claims — What We Know

Federal agents moved swiftly against former Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell over the weekend, seizing his electronic devices at San Francisco International Airport before executing a search warrant at his Washington, D.C.
Sources familiar with the matter confirmed to CNN that the actions form part of an ongoing federal probe linked directly to sexual assault allegations that have already upended the California politician’s career. The FBI itself has declined to comment, leaving the precise scope of the investigation shrouded in the kind of secrecy that only deepens public curiosity.
Swalwell, who represented Bay Area districts for more than a decade, offered no immediate response to inquiries about the raids. He has consistently and repeatedly denied every allegation of sexual assault leveled against him.
The former congressman’s political free-fall began in April, when detailed reporting by CNN and the San Francisco Chronicle brought forward multiple claims of sexual misconduct. One former staffer alleged that Swalwell raped her while she was heavily intoxicated, leaving her bruised and bleeding. The incident, she said, occurred in 2024 after she had already left his office. In her own words: “I was pushing him off of me, saying no.” And then: “He didn’t stop.”
Those earlier accounts prompted both the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department to open their own criminal investigations. The weekend’s FBI operations mark a significant escalation—a federal inquiry running parallel to the state and local probes. Four women who previously spoke about their experiences with Swalwell have now confirmed they have been contacted by the FBI as part of this latest phase.
Beyond the most serious allegation, three other women described separate instances of misconduct. Their accounts centered on unsolicited explicit messages and nude photographs sent by the then-congressman.
Months after the initial revelations, additional reporting revealed that more than a dozen other women recounted interactions with Swalwell over the past decade that left them deeply uncomfortable. These ranged from unwanted social-media messages to in-person encounters and alleged attempts to draw them to his hotel room.
The Daily Mail first broke news of the airport seizure and subsequent home search.
Swalwell’s denials remain firm, yet the combination of state probes, a federal raid, and the accounts of multiple women continues to generate intense scrutiny.
