Fox News Editor Found Dead in Neighbor’s Closet — Suspect Allegedly Confesses

Fox News editor Joshua Cochran was found dead inside a neighbor’s apartment in Alexandria, Virginia, after his family reported him missing. Authorities say the suspect admitted to killing the 44-year-old victim when detectives arrived at his residence to investigate his disappearance.
Cochran, a video editor for Fox News, was discovered inside a closet in a neighboring apartment after investigators traced his final known movements. Police identified the suspect as 63-year-old John Stremple III, who was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

The investigation began Monday when Cochran’s mother became concerned after being unable to contact him. His family requested a welfare check at his apartment in the 5700 block of Merton Court.
Officers initially searched Cochran’s residence but found no immediate evidence explaining his disappearance.
When relatives contacted police again Tuesday, investigators expanded their efforts and began examining where Cochran had last been seen.
Detectives eventually learned that Cochran had visited a bar with Stremple, a neighbor who lived in the same residential area.
That information led officers to Stremple’s apartment, where authorities say the investigation took a dramatic turn.
Alexandria Police Chief Tarrick McGuire said Stremple unexpectedly admitted responsibility when detectives approached him.
“When our detectives knocked on the door, they were just following up on the leads that had been established. And when they opened that door, the suspect gave an immediate confession,” McGuire explained.
Police subsequently searched the apartment and discovered Cochran’s body concealed inside a closet.
Investigators reported that Cochran had suffered blunt-force injuries to his head. Authorities have not publicly established a motive for the alleged killing.
Stremple was taken into custody and booked into the Alexandria Detention Center on a second-degree murder charge.
According to NBC Washington, Stremple was previously registered as a sex offender following a 2014 conviction involving sodomy against a minor.

The discovery unsettled residents of the neighborhood, where one woman expressed disbelief that such a violent crime could occur nearby.
“It’s pretty scary. I wouldn’t expect something like that to happen in this neighborhood,” the neighbor told WUSA 9.
Fox News Media confirmed Cochran’s death and expressed condolences to his loved ones.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of our colleague Joshua Cochran. He was a dedicated member of our FOX News Media team who will be dearly missed. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to his family,” a company spokesperson said.
Cochran’s family remembered him as an intelligent, creative man with a remarkable sense of humor who deeply loved his son and dog. His mother described him as someone who “had a soft soul about him. And he was smart, funny. Oh, he was so funny. He was the funniest one of the family.”
