Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel “will take mighty vengeance for this black day.”
“I tell Hamas, you are responsible for the wellbeing of captives, Israel will settle the score with anyone who harms them,” Netanyahu said.
“Residents of Gaza: Leave now because we will operate forcefully everywhere,” he said.
The attack occurred roughly one month after President Joe Biden approved the release of $6 billion to Iran, which is a state sponsor of terrorism in the region.
Although funds were intended to be used for “humanitarian causes,” critics say the actual use of the funds cannot be properly audited.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the U.S. is working to verify the American deaths and disappearances of Americans.
A specific number was not provided, but Blinken alluded to “several.”
