Jelly Roll Responds to Backlash Over Trump Jokes: ‘Y’all Will Never See Me Again’

Country star Jelly Roll says he would be willing to leave the music industry entirely if he believed God was directing him toward a different purpose.

The singer’s comments resurfaced in a viral clip following recent backlash over jokes he made about President Donald Trump and Trump supporters while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

“Everything that Jason [DeFord] or Jelly Roll wanted to do in the music business, I’ve done now, so at this point, I really need to go talk to God and see if he wants me to stick around, or what he wants me to do next,” Jelly Roll said.

The remarks came during an interview with *Y’all Access* host Kelly Sutton that was recorded earlier this year.

Although the conversation reportedly took place in March, footage from the interview did not circulate widely on social media until months later.

Jelly Roll made clear that his future in entertainment depends on what he believes God is calling him to do.

“If God tells me to go work at a homeless shelter in Paducah, KY, I’m outta here, y’all will never see me again,” he said.

The Grammy-nominated performer also reflected on how much he has already accomplished during his career.

“He [God] gave me everything I ever wanted, man — Grammys, ACMs, CMAs, I’m a member of the Grand Ole Opry, like God has done it,” Jelly Roll said.

He was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry earlier this year and discussed his faith while speaking backstage at the venue.

Jelly Roll also said he has been focusing more heavily on his personal and spiritual life.

“I just gotta go do a little bit of work on myself to make sure that I’m all the way ready,” he said. “I’m completely sober, though.”

The singer added that he has been spending significant time in therapy and studying the Bible as he considers what comes next.

“I’m clear-headed, and I’m deep in therapy,” Jelly Roll said. “I’m deep in my Bible, but I think that I gotta separate from the chaos of the business for me to really hear what what God wants for me to do next.”

The comments resurfaced after Jelly Roll faced criticism from some fans over political jokes made during appearances on *Jimmy Kimmel Live!*.

Reports earlier this month said the singer lost a significant number of social media followers following the controversy. Jelly Roll also told listeners who objected to his Trump-related jokes that they were free to stop listening to his music.

Despite the renewed attention surrounding the controversy, Jelly Roll’s comments suggest he has been considering his long-term future in music for months — and says he is prepared to walk away if his faith leads him in another direction.
